As Guido suggested, that new baby has been very convenient: he was the ostensible reason given by Gordy for that 'victory smirk' as well.
Yes, Guido calls it the "Blame the Baby" tactic. Charles Kennedy also used it after making a mess of an early morning press conference. (Of the three party leaders only "Ming" Campbell doesn't - so far as I know - have a young child. As Leader of the Liberal-Democrats he surely has enough time on his hands...)
